OpenAI rolls out Advanced Voice Mode with more voices and a fresh look 🔥🎤
OpenAI is launching Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for more ChatGPT Plus and Teams customers, with Enterprise and Edu users getting access next week. The update includes a fresh design, replacing the old animated black dots with a blue animated sphere. When AVM is available, users will see a pop-up next to the voice icon in the ChatGPT app.
Salesforce snatches up Zoomin, a tool for organizing company knowledge 📚🚀
After acquiring data management firm Own earlier this month, Salesforce announced plans to purchase Zoomin, an enterprise knowledge platform that consolidates company documents like user guides and tutorials into a single portal. The deal's terms remain undisclosed, but Salesforce aims to finalize it by Q4 of fiscal year 2025, pending customary conditions. Founded in 2019 by Gal Oron, Hannan Saltzman, and Joe Gelb, Zoomin utilizes AI and big data to enhance self-service documentation and support experiences, serving clients from tech companies like McAfee and Dell to fast-food chains such as Burger King and Tim Hortons.
Reddit is bringing AI-powered automatic translation to dozens of new countries 🌍🤖
Reddit is expanding its machine learning-powered translation services to over 35 new locales across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, aiming to make the predominantly English-centric platform more accessible to a wider audience. This rollout comes five months after the initial introduction of site-wide translations for French speakers, although individual post translations were available beforehand. Users can already select their preferred content and display languages. The announcement follows Reddit's public listing seven months ago, as the company looks to boost its user base and ad revenue by offering content in more languages.
AI2’s Molmo proves open source can outshine closed multimodal models 🚀🔍
Common wisdom suggests that only companies like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, with vast resources and top-tier researchers, can create state-of-the-art foundation models. However, AI2 has challenged this notion with the release of Molmo, a multimodal AI model that competes with the best while being small, free, and truly open source. It’s important to note that Molmo (multimodal open language model) is a visual understanding engine rather than a comprehensive chatbot like ChatGPT; it lacks an API, enterprise integration, and web searching capabilities. Instead, it focuses on interpreting images and answering questions about them.
Meta developed a ‘neural interface’ for its next-gen Orion AR glasses 🕶️🔗
At the Meta Connect 2024 conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a “neural interface” designed to control the prototype Orion AR glasses. Inspired by CTRL-Labs, a brain-machine interface company Meta acquired in 2019, this wrist-worn device allows users to gesture and navigate apps on the Orion glasses. Zuckerberg emphasized that Orion is the first device powered by this wrist-based neural interface, enabling users to send signals directly from their brains. According to The Verge’s Alex Heath, the wristband will be available for purchase soon and will also work with Meta’s other AR hardware, although pricing details are still pending.
